The Finigan School of Distance Education Term 2 Primary Mini-School was a fantastic experience where our students tapped in to their creative sides for three days of music, art, drama and filming. It started with a tour of our impressive new school building, where students made observations about what they saw. They then used these observations as inspiration to write a rap song all about our school. We recorded the song and then students created a film clip using our new Green Screen technology.
On day two the students and teachers visited the National Gallery of Australia to get creative recreating artworks with iPads. The students enjoyed superimposing line art onto ‘selfies’ and they dressed up in Russian Ballets Russes costumes at the NGA play. They made some colourful paper hats and visited the sculpture gallery.
On the final day, the students acted out ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ book and got creative with their use of props. They switched gears to paint some artworks which were displayed at our culminating Art Gallery barbeque. The children wrote captions for their paintings and decided that their pieces would cost millions of dollars to purchase. We all had a wonderful time showing the families and teachers all our creative pieces that the students had made over the three days and they really enjoyed coming together to share their learning and form new friendships.
