eLearning coursework tips for primary school
At Finigan School of Distance Education we view homework as the time spent on eLearning coursework that reinforces work done in live lessons class and helps develop independence. There will not be additional homework on top of the usual weekly eLearning coursework.
eLearning coursework is often a revision of what was covered in live lessons. As well as regular weekly eLearning coursework, your child may have assessments such as assignments or projects with due dates. A key to success is being organised.
Setting up for success
- Ask your child about their eLearning coursework, know what they are learning about and when assignments are due.
- Use our term assessment planner (DOCX 53.57KB) to record when any assignments are due. This will help your child prepare in advance.
- Make 'to-do’ lists to spread out the workload.
- Get into a routine of doing eLearning coursework at a set time, ideally a little each day.
- Have a set place where children can do their eLearning coursework, with the equipment they’ll need. A computer with internet access is usually all you need for distance education. However, some tasks might require pens and pencils, highlighters, scissors, glue, scrap paper, ruler, calculator, printer and printing paper,
- If the weekly eLearning coursework is completed, encourage your child to do some reading. For younger children, it’s great for them to read aloud to you. For older ones, ask them to tell you about what they have read.
- Don’t jump in and give answers. eLearning coursework is about helping children become independent learners.
- Encourage your child to start any assignments as soon as they receive them – this will reduce any night-before stress.
